what is the vision?
To seek Character and Career that is Christ like among children at risk.
Why this mission?
We want to see evangelism and excellence in education amongst the 66 Sukumbasi’s (slums) in Kathmandu and beyond because education without Jesus Christ only produces clever devils.
Where is the school?
These slum dwellers or squatters live in the Sinamangal slum located in the shadow of Kathmandu’s international airport. An old fashioned lopsided walking bridge provides passage to the settlement on the other side of the Baghmati River.
When does the Tara school operate?
Daily at the sinamangal site and periodically amongst the 66 other slums across and beyond Kathmandu.
Who are the families?
People at the slum are sweepers, fortune tellers, rag pickers, sand sellers. They are low class workers and many dysfunctional types like drunkards, drug addicts, sex workers, criminals and other victimizers and victims of the urban jungle. They send their children to us.
Whom do we call our leadership team?
We now have a 10 member leadership team who are all called and trained and qualified to teach. We are trusting the Lord for two more teachers for this challenging informal school.
Which strategy do we employ?
Because 90% of these squatters do not know how to read and write we concentrate on being creative in reading and writing skills.
How you can help?
We need books, pens, crayons, color pencils, slates, reading books, toys, vitamins, rent, finances for food and volunteer salaries and stipends.
